RIYADH, May 14 (Alliance News): Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has welcomed the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India, expressing support for US-led efforts toward regional peace.
Speaking at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting in Riyadh, the Crown Prince stated, “We commend the efforts of US President Donald Trump in promoting peace in South Asia. The ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India is a positive development, and we fully support future dialogue between the two countries.”
He emphasized that the GCC remains committed to fostering peace in the region, advocating for an end to hostilities in Gaza, and strengthening cooperation with the United States.
Earlier at the same forum, US President Donald Trump reiterated his administration’s goal to eliminate “miscreants” in the Middle East. “The Gulf states have long been partners in peace. We must now cleanse the region of those who spread chaos,” he said.
President Trump also announced that sanctions on Syria had been lifted to allow a “new beginning” and hinted at ongoing efforts to normalize relations with Damascus. Addressing tensions with Iran, he stressed, “Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons. We are open to negotiations, but we will act decisively to prevent nuclear proliferation.”
He further stated that resolving the Gaza conflict remains a priority. “The release of hostages is a basic condition for lasting peace,” Trump asserted, adding that the Houthis have recently halted their attacks on American vessels—a move seen as a positive step.
The GCC summit comes amid heightened tensions and shifting alliances in the region, with an increasing push from regional leaders to stabilize flashpoints through diplomacy and economic engagement.
