Bangladesh Nears Starlink Deal to Ensure Uninterrupted Internet Access

DHAKA, March 26 (Alliance News): Bangladesh’s interim leader Muhammad Yunus announced that a commercial agreement with SpaceX’s Starlink is expected within three months to provide nationwide satellite internet services.

The deal aims to ensure uninterrupted connectivity, preventing political interference in internet access.

Yunus, who took charge after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ouster last year, said Starlink’s satellite technology would prevent future government-imposed shutdowns, which occurred during last year’s protests.

Speaking ahead of Independence Day, Yunus emphasized that no government would be able to control digital access once Starlink is operational.

He acknowledged that inflation remains a key challenge, though it fell to 9.32% in February, the lowest in 22 months. The government aims to reduce it below 8% by June.

Reaffirming his commitment to democracy, Yunus assured that Bangladesh’s next national election would be held between December 2024 and June 2026, promising it to be the most free and fair in the country’s history.
