US Envoy Claims China Distancing Itself From Iran After Trump Visit

UNITED NATIONS, May 15 (Alliance News): United States Ambassador to the United Nations Michael Waltz has claimed that China has started distancing itself from Iran following former US President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Beijing.

Speaking at the United Nations, Michael Waltz stated that China had agreed not to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons and would also not support the imposition of toll taxes on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The US envoy further claimed that Beijing’s position on Iran had shifted after Donald Trump’s diplomatic engagement with Chinese leadership during his visit to China.

Meanwhile, China’s Ambassador to the United Nations criticized the timing and wording of the US-sponsored resolution presented before the UN Security Council regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

The Chinese envoy stated that the current situation required serious and constructive dialogue rather than escalatory measures, emphasizing the need to encourage both sides toward negotiations conducted in good faith.

He stressed that diplomatic engagement and balanced dialogue remained essential for maintaining regional stability and avoiding further tensions in the Middle East.

The latest remarks come amid growing international concern over regional security, maritime trade routes and ongoing tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme and the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor.

Analysts say the differing statements from US and Chinese officials highlight continuing diplomatic divisions among major powers over how to address tensions involving Iran and regional security issues.
