Pakistan, Saudi Arabia agree to build international Cricket stadium in Jeddah

RIYADH, July 6 (Alliance News): Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to strengthen cooperation in sports and security, including the construction of a world-class cricket stadium in Jeddah, during high-level meetings held between Federal Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and senior Saudi officials.

During his official visit to Riyadh and Jeddah, Mohsin Naqvi held a series of meetings with Saudi leadership and relevant authorities, focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation in cricket, security, and institutional partnerships.

A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of an international-standard cricket stadium in Jeddah. The facility will feature modern floodlights, advanced broadcasting and media infrastructure, a cricket academy, training facilities, and state-of-the-art amenities for players, officials, and spectators.

Under the agreement, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will provide technical assistance to Saudi Arabia in promoting cricket, including coaching, talent development, event management, and the organization of international-standard cricket competitions.

Officials described the project as a major milestone for the growth of cricket in Saudi Arabia and a significant step toward expanding sporting opportunities across the region.

In separate meetings, Mohsin Naqvi and Saudi officials also discussed enhancing cooperation in counterterrorism, anti-narcotics efforts, border security, intelligence sharing, and institutional collaboration. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security coordination and promoting regional peace and stability.

The proposed cricket stadium aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the Kingdom’s economy by investing in sports and attracting major international sporting events. For Pakistan, the initiative is expected to further sports diplomacy and deepen its longstanding strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia.

The development has been widely welcomed by the large Pakistani and Kashmiri communities living in Saudi Arabia, who expressed hope that the stadium will host international cricket matches, training camps, and other sporting events, bringing the people of both countries even closer.

Observers believe the initiative reflects the expanding scope of Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations, which now extend beyond traditional diplomatic and economic cooperation to include sports, investment, and institutional partnerships.
