Islamabad, Aug. 9 (Alliance News): Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong has said China’s newly implemented Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress provides a solid legal foundation for national unity, human rights protection and long-term stability, while reaffirming Beijing’s commitment to deepening its all-weather strategic partnership with Pakistan.
In an article, the ambassador said the law, which came into force on July 1, is China’s first comprehensive legislation on ethnic affairs and reflects the country’s commitment to ensuring equality among all ethnic groups, safeguarding their fundamental rights and promoting shared prosperity and development.
He said the legislation strengthens the institutional framework for fostering a strong sense of national identity and reinforces the concept of a unified Chinese nation through the rule of law.
The ambassador noted that China has made significant progress in improving living standards and reducing poverty in ethnic regions.
He said more than 31.21 million people had been lifted out of poverty in ethnic areas through targeted development policies, while the combined GDP of China’s five autonomous regions increased from 3.25 trillion yuan in 2012 to 8.66 trillion yuan in 2025.
According to the envoy, the law institutionalizes these achievements and promotes high-quality development, greater regional integration and common prosperity for all ethnic communities.
Jiang said the legislation also serves as an important safeguard against security threats and attempts by hostile forces to exploit ethnic issues to undermine China’s unity and stability. He added that strengthening ethnic harmony is essential for safeguarding national security, social cohesion and sustainable development.
Highlighting bilateral ties, the ambassador said China and Pakistan have stood firmly together throughout the 75 years of diplomatic relations, regardless of changes in the international environment.
He described the China-Pakistan All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership as a model of friendly relations between nations.
He appreciated Pakistan’s consistent adherence to the One China Principle and its support for China’s core interests, including issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang and Tibet.
The ambassador also praised Pakistan’s efforts to maintain political stability, achieve steady economic growth and enhance its international standing, reaffirming China’s continued support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and development path.
Looking ahead, Jiang said China is ready to work with Pakistan to upgrade China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0, expand cooperation across multiple sectors and accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future.
