Riyadh, May 28 (Alliance News): Iranian scholar Gholam Reza Qasemian has been arrested in Saudi Arabia for posting comments critical of the Saudi government.
Qasemian was in the Kingdom to perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage when detained, according to reports from a foreign news agency.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi condemned the arrest, emphasizing the importance of preserving Muslim unity during the sacred period of Hajj.
He assured that Tehran will not allow this incident to damage the growing brotherly relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Araqchi also praised Saudi Arabia’s “very effective and excellent” arrangements for the pilgrimage this year, congratulating the Saudi government and people on their continued success in managing the holy event.
Meanwhile, Iran’s judiciary denounced the arrest as unjust and illegal, calling for the immediate release of Qasemian.
The incident comes amid sensitive diplomatic ties between the two nations, highlighting the delicate balance during religious and political exchanges.
