BEIJING, July 24 (Alliance News): Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting in Beijing with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who are in China to attend the 25th China-EU Leaders’ Meeting.
During the talks on Thursday, President Xi highlighted the significance of China-EU relations over the past five decades and emphasized the need to uphold mutual respect and cooperation in facing global challenges.
President Xi noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the European Union 50 years ago, their exchanges and collaboration have yielded remarkable results.
He said this relationship has not only benefitted both sides but also contributed positively to global peace and development.
He credited this success to the principles of mutual respect, seeking common ground while setting aside differences, open cooperation, and shared interests—values he said should continue guiding future China-EU relations.
Calling for renewed leadership vision and strategic decision-making, Xi urged both Chinese and European leaders to take actions that meet the expectations of their peoples and stand the test of time.
“The more serious and complex the international situation becomes, the more we must communicate, build trust, and expand cooperation,” he said. “Stable and sound China-EU relations can offer the world greater certainty and stability.”
President Xi described both China and the EU as “major forces” in the global arena, stressing that it is essential to maintain the correct course in the development of their relationship.
