BEIJING, March 8 (Alliance News): China’s film industry has recorded strong growth in 2026, with total box office revenue exceeding 10 billion yuan, according to data from online film industry platforms.
The figure, which includes advance ticket sales, places China ahead of the North American market by more than 2.5 billion yuan so far this year, making it the leading global box office market.
Industry data also shows that the number of cinema-goers has reached approximately 225 million during the same period, reflecting a strong recovery and continued public interest in theatrical releases.
Meanwhile, the total number of film screenings across cinemas in China has reached around 261 million, highlighting the scale and activity of the country’s movie exhibition sector.
Analysts say the continued growth of the Chinese film market reflects rising domestic demand, strong local productions and the expansion of cinema infrastructure across the country.
